Launch Conference - March 2006 PDF Print E-mail

On 23rd March 2006, Mayor Therese Ridge launched this project at a conference held in the Clarion Hotel, Liffey Valley. The conference was launched by Deputy Conor Lenihan, Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs with responsibility for Development Cooperation & Human Rights.

The morning session of the conference was chaired by Mr. Conor O’Riordan, Director, Programme Countries, Department of Foreign Affairs and included presentations from:

•    Ato. Goitom Khasay,  Charge d’Affairs, Ethiopian Embassy
•    Mayor Therese Ridge,   SDCC

•    Eddie Conroy, Senior Architect, SDCC
•    Philip Lee,  Ethiopian Connections

The afternoon Session was chaired by Ms. Pauline Conway, Director, Sub- Saharan Africa Section, Department of Foreign Affairs and included presentations from:

•    Ato. Ahmed Kedir, Chairperson of Werabe Town Council
•    Ato. Abdulfeteh Bereda, Manager of Butajira Town Counci
•    Dr. Joel Lecorre, Project Director, Blanc-Mesnil (France) /Debre Berhan (Ethiopia) Twinning
•    Fr. Pat Cogan, Respond Housing Association
•    Hillary  McDonagh, Chief Executive, Self Help Development International

There was an excellent attendance of more than 60 delegates at the conference from the following organisations:

There was a great deal of positive feedback for this Council initiative from the attendees. Deputy Lenihan expressed his hope that the project was one which could be replicated by other Irish local authorities in time.
